Calendar Nov 16, 2023 at 9 am

DESCRIPTION: Gaining familiarity and fluency with the clinical process of assessment, diagnosis, and intervention is a crucial skill competency for all behavioral health professionals. Client motivation and commitment to treatment begin with the clinical assessment and diagnostic impressions that typically are gathered at intake and that continue to be formulated and refined throughout the therapeutic relationship. This course considers the differences between and among screening, assessment, and intake and the use of various evaluative instruments. The class also considers the components of the clinical assessment such as a biopsychosocial interview, assessment of risk toward self and others, identification of cultural needs and supports, key problem domains, determination of the stage of readiness for change, and the strengths the client brings to the change process itself. Differential diagnosis utilizing the DSM-5-TR™ and establishing the resulting level of care for the client are discussed using the ASAM Criteria. Stages of treatment and systems of care are covered along with key facets of treatment planning. Additionally, this and all addiction counselor classes seek to enhance the ability of the counselor to offer treatment services in a manner that respects gender, race and ethnicity, sexual orientation, cultural, familial, systemic, and socioeconomic diversity. NOTE: This class can be taken independently, as a required course for CAT/CAS/LAC credentialing, and also as part of the Noeticus Professional Addiction Counselor - Certification Program™ (NPAC-CP); Save an additional 20% by purchasing the complete NPAC-CP Course Package.
