DESCRIPTION: Our first experiences of who we are come through the sensorimotor channels of our bodies. Our sense of identity is established by the quality of interactions we have with the people in our environment and the way they mirror back to us the type of world in which we live. Through the developmental process we cultivate a more abstract concept of our self, but the original sensorimotor experiences that shaped our identity form a strong template that continues to inform and shape our perceptions and experiences throughout our lives. Somatic psychology is the study of how these patterns of physical and psychological experience inform and interact with one another through complex and interconnected intrapsychic and interpersonal dynamics that we are only beginning to understand through channels of inquiry such as contemporary neuroscience, attachment theory, and intersubjective psychology. DESCRIPTION: Motivational Interviewing (MI) is a client‐centered collaborative style of conversation designed to strengthen an individual’s motivation for and commitment to change. As defined by its founders, Bill Miller and Stephen Rollnick, MI is counselor‐guided and centers on four tasks - Engaging, Focusing, Evoking, and Planning. The fourth edition of their book addresses the breadth of MI applications not only in counseling and psychotherapy settings, but also in healthcare, education, coaching, management, and beyond. This newest edition also discusses delivering MI remotely, simple versus complex affirmations, strategic use of directional questions, ethical considerations, and other new or expanded topics. The traditional OARS skills are reframed as tools used in helping conversations that lean into Partnership, Acceptance, Compassion, and Empowerment. This class introduces participants to the core principles, spirit, and strategies of MI and supports integration into clinical practice. Group Counseling Skills: A Learning Laboratory for Clients to Gain Insight, Practice Skills, and Receive Feedback

DESCRIPTION: Group counseling or psychotherapy is a powerful tool in delivering addiction treatment services. This training is designed to support aspiring addiction counselors in developing a comprehensive understanding of group therapy within the addiction treatment field. Participants learn foundational concepts of group process and dynamics, as well as acquire the practical skills necessary to facilitate both psychoeducational and process-oriented therapy groups. The focus of the training includes group development and process, models of effective group therapy practice, common challenges encountered by group facilitators, and cultural considerations within group settings. Instructional methods include: group discussions, case study presentations, experiential exercises, and applied learning activities. Participants actively engage in skill development through structured practice. Video recording may be utilized to support skill-building, feedback, and self-reflection.
