DESCRIPTION: The Noeticus Administrative and Business Effectiveness - Practice Endorsement™ (NABE-PE; 45.0 Contact Hours) is one of four practice endorsements designed around the Noeticus Counselor Training and Practice Triangle™, which is introduced and discussed extensively in all of our clinical supervision classes and trainings. The Noeticus Counselor Training and Practice Triangle™ posits that the "Self of the Therapist" in the middle of the triangle influences and in turn is influenced by the three outside points of the triangle: 1) Administrative Effectiveness and Entrepreneurial Spirit; 2) Clinical Skills and Theoretical Orientation; and 3) Professional Identity. The model goes on to emphasize that when these four domains are intentionally developed and working together smoothly, the chances of experiencing a successful, rewarding, and long-lasting career are greatly amplified.

To support that goal, we are delighted to offer the following Practice Endorsements, derived from the Noeticus Counselor Training and Practice Triangle™, in support of mental health professionals, managers, and supervisors wishing to extend and fortify their clinical skills in those key domains of clinical practice. The practice endorsements are as follows:

More specifically, the Noeticus Administrative and Business Effectiveness - Practice Endorsement™ (NABE-PE; 45.0 Contact Hours) is designed for mental health professionals, managers, and supervisors who want to learn some of the key skills and attitudes associated with successfully navigating the logistical elements of a counseling practice or program - whether independently or as part of a larger system or organization. The series provides multiple resources and templates for creating a successful internship or training program, developing and building a counseling practice or team, as well as tools for monitoring and maintaining progress. This training package provides 45.0 contact hours of course content over the sequence of three, 15-hour trainings and is offered once per calendar year. The three training intensives are designed to be completed in three months, but can be extended up to 12 months. The courses that comprise each of the individual Practice Endorsements listed above constitute the educational requirement for the Noeticus Counselor Training and Practice - Certification Program™ (NCTP-CP). The Noeticus Administrative and Business Effectiveness - Practice Endorsement™ (NABE-PE; 45.0 Contact Hours) includes the following individual trainings:

Practice Endorsement and Certification Program - General Information

The Noeticus Center for Professional Development™ (NCPD) at Noeticus Counseling Center and Training Institute® offers a variety of Practice Endorsements (PEs) and Certification Programs (CPs) to mental health professionals and those in related disciplines seeking to deepen their focus in one particular area of practice beyond a singular course. Practice Endorsements are usually either 45.0 or 90.0 contact hours in length and typically are comprised of three, 15-hour classes, though in some cases other combinations are used to total that amount of time.

Practice Endorsements offer course participants the experience of engaging in a mini-sequenced course of study with a learning cohort of like-minded professionals committed to taking the next step in their professional development. The curriculum for each of the endorsements has been carefully and coherently assembled based on thematic similarities in their content and/or application areas. Additionally, the material is shared in a way that reflects contemporary practices in adult learning theory - including both didactic and experiential learning along with ample opportunities for immediate application and building strong and lasting connections with other training participants that extend well beyond the courses themselves. IMPORTANT: Registration for a Professional Endorsement offers open enrollment to any participant, whether through individual courses or full packages.

By contrast, Certification Programs (CPs) require additional components beyond the associated courses, typically including such things as outside practice sessions, clinical consultation/supervision, skills demonstration, and/or a final certification project. In some instances, Practice Endorsements can be applied to partially fulfill the educational requirements for a Certification Program. Certification Programs are more intensive and integrative than Practice Endorsements and thus require more focus and commitment to complete, usually ranging from 100.0 to 150.0 contact hours each. IMPORTANT: Registration for a Certification Program is through application and approval only, thus open enrollment is not possible. Completion of partial credit through a Practice Endorsement does not guarantee placement in a Certification Program, therefore we encourage those interested in going through a Certification Program to apply early. For more information, please visit the prospective Certification Program website or contact us at training@noeticus.org.

Practice Endorsement and Certification Program - Registration Policies

When course participants register for one of our packages, we try to place them in the first class or training that is part of that series. This helps ensure that all prerequisites are met and also maximizes the possibility of meeting and developing connections with other members of the learning cohort. In some cases, this is not possible due to scheduling conflicts, emergencies, under-enrollment, and other unexpected events. In such cases, we work individually with course participants to transfer them to the next available course or develop an alternative learning plan if necessary. Thus it is important to recognize that registration for an individual course or a particular course package does not guarantee specific placement.

Practice Endorsements and Certification Programs are built into our annual calendar of classes and trainings. Some of them are offered four times a year on a quarterly basis, others are offered twice a year on a semi-annual basis, while others are only offered once a year on an annual basis. Classes and trainings that are part of a Practice Endorsement or Certification Program can be purchased separately or as part of a class or training package. If a package registration is selected, a 20% discount will be automatically deducted from any of the standard registration categories (general, group, military/veteran, student) at the time of purchase. Class and training packages are non-refundable, non-transferable to another person, and be completed within 12 months of the date of purchase (unless other arrangements are made). Packages cannot be retroactively purchased once sales of individual classes or trainings have been completed, so be sure to select accordingly.

Practice Endorsement and Certification Program - Final Conferral

For both Practice Endorsements and Certification Programs, each course participant must submit an application to receive the final endorsement or certification once all requirements have been fulfilled as this is not automatic. The application can be downloaded HERE

Payment plan available: $200 deposit plus 8 payments of $57.77, paid weekly. Final payment of $57.84.

NCPD: Developing a Training Program

$300

DESCRIPTION: As part of their desire to give back to the next generation of practitioners, or perhaps out of a commitment to social justice and serving under-resourced populations, or maybe even as a strategy for growing their business or program, many mental health professionals find themselves at some point in their career where they are essentially running a training program. This can happen both willingly or reluctantly as well as intentionally or accidentally. Of course, the most successful combination is choosing to willingly create or manage a training program in a way that intentionally or deliberately takes into account the growth and development of trainees across the arc of time in which they are training. Many people equate such training programs with pre-graduation requirements such as practicum and internship placements, which of course is accurate. At the same time, however, it's important to consider that a training program might also apply to licensure candidates who are post-graduate but pre-licensure, newly hired staff or employees, new teams of seasoned professionals working together in a different way, and many other such configurations. Using the Noeticus Counselor Training and Practice Triangle™ as a structural guide, and building on the developmental and integrative models of supervision explored in Clinical Supervision I, Clinical Supervision II, and Clinical Supervision III (which are prerequisites for this training), this advanced training supports managers and supervisors who want to start a training program - or who are already running a training program - in setting things up so that important administrative, clinical, and professional benchmarks are met in a developmentally-sequenced and coherent fashion. The course is divided into three functional domains: 1) getting things off to a good start with an emphasis on the supervisor activating the teacher role; 2) helping things deepen and grow with an emphasis on the supervisor using the counselor role; and 3) bringing things to an integrated and meaningful closure with an emphasis on the supervisor enlisting the consultant role. There will be a plethora of ideas and resources shared that are pertinent to each of these training domains and course participants will also have the opportunity to work alone and in teams to generate some of their own ideas based on the hopes, needs, and goals they have for their own various training programs. NOTE: This training can be taken independently and also as part of the Noeticus Administrative and Business Effectiveness - Practice Endorsement™ (NABE-PE) and/or the more comprehensive Noeticus Counselor Training and Practice - Certification Program™ (NCTP-CP); Save an additional 20% by purchasing the complete NABE-PE Course Package. NCPD: Feedback-Informed Treatment (FIT) and Deliberate Practice (DP)

$300

DESCRIPTION: Current approaches to psychotherapy practice tend to emphasize the importance of modality or technique in achieving desired client outcomes. Mental health practitioners are typically concerned with "what" to do in order to support their clients in achieving their therapeutic goals. This view is supported by clinical supervisors who often over-focus on strengthening clinician skills through listening to narrative self-reporting by the practitioner followed by offering counsel or guidance as the key to improving client outcomes. The research on client outcomes tells a different story though. Indeed, reaching consistent and robust client outcomes is more a function of "how" the mental health practitioner interacts with the client rather than what types of skills or interventions are used. For instance, the research on common factors that lead to significant change across all behavioral health modalities indicates that relational factors between the practitioner and client have an average impact of about 30% whereas clinician modality or technique only accounts for about 15% of the change - the same amount of change accounted for by hope, expectancy, and other placebo-like variables. The greatest amount of change, at about 40%, is attributed to factors occurring in the client's life outside of the therapeutic relationship. With that in mind, it seems clear that both clinicians and their supervisors will have the greatest impact on positive client outcomes by attending first to relational factors that solidify engagement between practitioner and client followed by a focus on clinician competency development. This is where Feedback-Informed Treatment (FIT) and Deliberate Practice (DP) become important components of treatment. FIT is an evidence-based approach to evaluating and improving the quality and effectiveness of the therapeutic relationship developed by psychologist, Scott D. Miller, PhD. FIT tracks both the overall results of the therapeutic work across sessions along with the quality of the therapeutic relationship within each session so that modifications can be made early and more easily. Deliberate Practice is an approach to skill mastery that relies on practicing at the edge of one's ability using regular and active feedback spaced across time to achieve mastery. Used together, they help practitioners, managers, and supervisors better tailor services to fit the needs of clients and thus improve their therapeutic outcomes. NOTE: This training can be taken independently and is also part of the Noeticus Administrative and Business Effectiveness - Practice Endorsement™ (NABE-PE) and/or the more comprehensive Noeticus Counselor Training and Practice - Certification Program (NCTP-CP); Save an additional 20% by purchasing the complete NABE-PE Course Package. NCPD: Tending the Business of Psychotherapy

$300

with Ryan Kennedy, PsyD, LP, LAC, LMFT, LPC, ACS

Calendar Sep 24, 2024 at 9 am

DESCRIPTION: Mental health professionals work in a diverse array of practice settings ranging from not-for-profit community mental health centers to corporate-based hospitals and treatment centers to self-owned individual and group practices. In all of these contexts, having strong clinical skills and a well-defined professional identity are clearly important attributes required by mental health professionals to support the success of and opportunities within their various practice contexts, but they are not enough. In addition to clinical skills and professional identity, strong administrative effectiveness skills and an associated entrepreneurial spirit are also required because they serve as the foundation for allowing the other two skills to flourish. In other words, without good administrative skills, it doesn’t matter how well one does in the other two areas because if the business doesn’t survive, no services can be provided. Unfortunately, most graduate programs focusing on training mental health professionals offer very little if any opportunities to learn about the business side of owning, managing, or even working within the general mental health delivery system and this is often an unrecognized threat to the long-term viability of both the staff and the programs within the mental health delivery system. As a partial remedy for that oversight, this training walks practitioners through some essential administrative practices for successfully establishing and maintaining the business side of a mental health delivery practice or program. These include creating/refining a vision and mission statement, selecting a business structure, developing a business plan, establishing a business budget, setting up business systems (like checking accounts, credit card processing, etc.), understanding human resources, practice marketing and promotion strategies, succession and legacy planning, and much more. During the training, participants work alone and in small groups to develop the tools needed for their individual practice locations and everyone will leave with a treasure chest of resources they can come back to for further exploration and deepening.
