DESCRIPTION: Motivational Interviewing (MI) is a client‐centered collaborative style of conversation designed to strengthen an individual’s motivation for and commitment to change. As defined by its founders, Bill Miller and Stephen Rollnick, MI is counselor‐guided and centers on four tasks - Engaging, Focusing, Evoking, and Planning. The fourth edition of their book addresses the breadth of MI applications not only in counseling and psychotherapy settings, but also in healthcare, education, coaching, management, and beyond. This newest edition also discusses delivering MI remotely, simple versus complex affirmations, strategic use of directional questions, ethical considerations, and other new or expanded topics. The traditional OARS skills are reframed as tools used in helping conversations that lean into Partnership, Acceptance, Compassion, and Empowerment. This class introduces participants to the core principles, spirit, and strategies of MI and supports integration into clinical practice. Additionally, this and all addiction counselor classes seek to enhance the ability of the counselor to provide treatment services in a manner that is responsive to gender, racial and ethnic identity, sexual orientation, cultural and familial context, systemic influences, and socioeconomic diversity. NOTE: This class can be taken independently, as a required course for CAT/CAS/LAC credentialing, and also as part of the Noeticus Addiction and Recovery Therapy: Level 2 - Practice Endorsement™ (NART-PE-2) and/or the more comprehensive Noeticus Addiction and Recovery Therapy - Certification Program™ (NART-CP); Save an additional 20% by purchasing the complete NART-PE-2 Course Package.
