Addiction Counseling Skills: A Client-Centered, Counselor-Guided, Strengths-Based Style of Counseling
"Skills for Unpacking, Sorting, and Repacking Client Experiences"
DESCRIPTION: Addiction Counseling Skills is a core addiction training at the Certified Addiction Technician (CAT) level of credentialing. Along with Principles of Addiction Treatment and Case Conceptualization and Documentation, this class provides foundational knowledge and skills required for effective addiction counseling. The purpose of this course is to introduce a counseling framework and associated models for working with individuals experiencing substance use disorders and other problem behaviors. The emphasis of this course is on developing practical counseling skills that help individuals unpack their experiences, understand them better, and move forward in the change process. The models utilize a client-centered, counselor-guided therapy approach along with a motivational spirit of counseling. Additionally, this and all addiction counselor classes seek to enhance the ability of the counselor to provide treatment services in a manner that is responsive to gender, racial and ethnic identity, sexual orientation, cultural and familial context, systemic influences, and socioeconomic diversity. NOTE: This class can be taken independently, as a required course for CAT/CAS/LAC credentialing, and also as part of the Noeticus Addiction and Recovery Therapy - Certification Program™ (NART-CP); Save an additional 20% by purchasing the complete NART-CP Course Package.
