Noeticus Integrative Gestalt Therapy Certification Program™ (NIGTCP)

NCPD: Existential Psychotherapy

$250

with Ryan Kennedy, PsyD, LAC, LMFT, LPC, ACS

Calendar Aug 15, 2019 at 9 am

DESCRIPTION: Many counselors focus on assisting clients develop stronger egos, greater self-esteem, and increased interpersonal connection. Though these are admirable goals; when clients experience trauma, loss, or other threats to identity; they are often left feeling hopeless, without purpose, and struggling to create meaning in their life. Existential thought in psychotherapy provides a foundation to meet clients at this life stage by exploring the four elements of “ultimate concern” that lie under the surface of many of these presenting problems. The four ultimate concerns are: 1) Death, 2) Freedom, 3) Isolation, and 4) Meaninglessness. Learning to identify and work with these themes directly can be a powerful resource for mental health professionals on two levels. First, it can serve as a profound lens that frames and gives nuance to many of the surface issues and concerns that clients bring with them into the consulting room. Second, it can help mental health professionals better understand how to tolerate and relate to the existential anxiety experienced by their clients and by themselves with more choice, responsibility, congruent meaning-making, and effective action. NOTE: This training can be taken independently or as one of the pre/co-requisites for the Noeticus Integrative Gestalt Therapy Certification Program™ (NIGTCP).

NCPD: Integrative Gestalt Therapy I

$250

with Ryan Kennedy, PsyD, LAC, LMFT, LPC, ACS

Calendar Oct 10, 2019 at 9 am

DESCRIPTION: Gestalt Therapy is a somatically-oriented, experiential therapy deeply rooted in Humanistic and Existential psychology that has significantly influenced and shaped many contemporary forms of psychotherapy. Developed by Fritz and Laura Perls, Gestalt Therapy draws wisdom from many traditions including psychoanalysis, Jungian psychology, existential philosophy, Zen Buddhism, and theater improvisation. Participants in this training learn the fundamental principles of the Gestalt approach, both as a primary therapeutic modality and as a perceptual framework that can be applied to other theoretical orientations. In particular, the Gestalt Cycle of Experience will be explored as a potent model for recognizing and understanding how needs arise in the phenomenological field and how those needs can be effectively addressed. Course participants will experientially investigate the interaction between self and environment and the various defensive strategies that can truncate or become barriers to the satisfaction of those needs by blurring the relationship between self and environment. NOTE: This training can be taken independently or as one of the pre/co-requisites for the Noeticus Integrative Gestalt Therapy Certification Program™ (NIGTCP).

NCPD: Somatic Psychotherapy

$250

with Ryan Kennedy, PsyD, LAC, LMFT, LPC, ACS

Calendar Aug 1, 2019 at 9 am

DESCRIPTION: Our first experiences of who we are come through the sensorimotor channels of our bodies. Our sense of identity is established by the quality of interactions we have with the people in our environment and the way they mirror back to us the type of world in which we live. Through the developmental process we cultivate a more abstract concept of our self, but the original sensorimotor experiences that shaped our identity form a strong template that continues to inform and shape our perceptions and experiences throughout our lives. Somatic psychology is the study of how these patterns of physical and psychological experience inform and interact with one another through complex and interconnected intrapsychic and interpersonal dynamics that we are only beginning to understand through channels of inquiry such as contemporary neuroscience, attachment theory, and intersubjective psychology. Participants in this training learn basic elements of how the body communicates with the self and the environment by exploring some of the fundamental principles of somatic psychology, including the fascinating relationship between sensation on the bodily level and movement expression in the world. NOTE: This training can be taken independently or as one of the pre/co-requisites for the Noeticus Integrative Gestalt Therapy Certification Program™ (NIGTCP).
