NCPD: Creating a Successful Clinical Training Program

with Ryan Kennedy, PsyD, LAC, LMFT, LPC, ACS

Calendar Jul 1, 2020 at 9 am

DESCRIPTION: Receiving specific training in how to be an intentional versus accidental clinical supervisor is a key aspect of establishing any type of successful internship or clinical training program and this functionally translates into creating and maintaining a training program that is developmentally-sequenced. In order to make the investment of time and energy worthwhile for the clinical supervisor and/or the organization or agency, such training programs often benefit from having multiple trainees at a time with a few different launching and ending dates, thus they benefit from being cohort-based in addition to being developmentally-sequenced. Accomplishing this type of programmatic complexity takes more than good clinical skills or training in effective clinical supervision. It takes a thorough understanding of best practices in human resources management, excellent administrative and business skills, as well as knowing important legal requirements, ethical considerations, and professional standards of practice. Drawing from over two decades of experience in supervising and training graduate interns and post-graduate, pre-licensed mental health professionals from all disciplines, this training provides learners with solid, reproducible, scalable, and sustainable ideas for starting or enhancing a successful internship or clinical training program. These include recommendations for recruitment and hiring, suggestions for new intern/employee orientation, templates for evaluation and corrective action, strategies for working with conflict, capitalizing on a developmentally-sequenced, cohort-based learning model, integrating cultural humility into clinical training, and much more. Because it draws from and builds on many of the concepts introduced in the Clinical Supervisor Training Series (either ACS or CAC/LAC), in particular, the Noeticus Counseling Training and Practice Triangle™, participants in this training are required to complete the Clinical Supervision Training Series before taking this training. NOTE: This training can be taken independently and is also part of the Noeticus Administrative and Business Effectiveness in Clinical Practice Certificate™ (NABECPC).
