NCPD: Existential Psychotherapy

$300

with Ryan Kennedy, PsyD, LAC, LMFT, LPC, ACS

Calendar Jul 23, 2020 at 9 am

DESCRIPTION: Many counselors focus on assisting clients to develop stronger egos, greater self-esteem, and increased interpersonal connection. Though these are admirable goals; when clients experience trauma, loss, or other threats to identity; they are often left feeling hopeless, without purpose, and struggling to create meaning in their life. Existential thought in psychotherapy provides a foundation to meet clients at this life stage by exploring the four elements of “ultimate concern” that lie under the surface of many of these presenting problems. The four ultimate concerns are: 1) Death, 2) Freedom, 3) Isolation, and 4) Meaninglessness. Learning to identify and work with these themes directly can be a powerful resource for mental health professionals on two levels. First, it can serve as a profound lens that frames and gives nuance to many of the surface issues and concerns that clients bring with them into the consulting room. Second, it can help mental health professionals better understand how to tolerate and relate to the existential anxiety experienced by their clients and by themselves with more choice, responsibility, congruent meaning-making, and effective action. NOTE: This training can be taken independently and is also one of the co-requisites (along with Somatic Psychotherapy) for the Noeticus Integrative Gestalt Therapy Certification Program™ (NIGTCP).

  • DATE: July 23 and 24, 2020 (Thursday & Friday).
  • TIME: 9:00 am to 6:00 pm.

NCPD: Clinical Supervision I (ACS™)

$300

with Ryan Kennedy, PsyD, LAC, LMFT, LPC, ACS

Calendar Jul 27, 2020 at 9 am

DESCRIPTION: In Colorado (and many other states), the only legal requirement to provide clinical supervision is having an active mental health license. Because of that, many mental health practitioners become clinical supervisors immediately upon receiving their licenses without having any additional training in the specialized counseling practice of clinical supervision. Functionally, this often translates into new supervisors using counseling skills to work with new supervisees instead of supervision skills, a scenario that isn't always very effective or even helpful. As an antidote to this serious problem within all of the mental health professions, the Center for Credentialing and Education (CCE); An affiliate of the National Board for Certified Counselors [NBCC]) developed the voluntary Approved Clinical Supervisor™ (ACS™) credential. This training is the first part of a three-part series covering the theory and practice of clinical supervision, all of which (when taken together) meet the training requirements for the ACS™ through the CCE. During our Clinical Supervision I training, participants learn the theoretical foundations. During our Clinical Supervision II training, participants build upon their theoretical foundations and add to them practical skills. Finally, during our Clinical Supervision III training, participants integrate the principles and theory they learned in Clinical Supervision I with the advanced concepts and skills taught in Clinical Supervision II and apply them in an experiential format. NOTE: This training can be taken as an educational requirement for ACS™ Certification through the CCE and also as part of the Noeticus Intentional Clinical Supervision in Clinical Practice Certificate™ (NICSCPC).

  • DATE: July 27 and 28, 2020 (Monday & Tuesday).
  • TIME: 9:00 am to 6:00 pm.
  • CE CONTACT HOURS: 15.0 Contact Hours.
  • CE APPROVALS: DORA, NAADAC, NBCC; Applicable to ACS™ Certification through the CCE; Applicable to the Noeticus Intentional Clinical Supervision in Clinical Practice Certificate™ (NICSCPC).

NCPD: Essential Neuroscience for Mental Health Professionals

$300

with Ryan Kennedy, PsyD, LAC, LMFT, LPC, ACS

Calendar Jul 29, 2020 at 9 am

DESCRIPTION: The central nervous system (CNS), made up of the brain and spinal cord, plays a key role in how our clients perceive, experience, and respond to the world around them. Though hereditary elements and biological predispositions have a significant impact on the functioning of the central nervous system and the subsequent experience of the self, it is also incredibly influenced by a variety of environmental factors such as early experience, social learning, schedules of punishment and reinforcement, current stressors, and availability of resources such as nutrition and medical care. Because all psychotherapy is essential working with the experience of the self - vis-a-vis the reshaping of the central nervous system - it is incumbent on all of us as mental health professionals to have a foundational understanding of the key structures and functions that comprise the central nervous system, how they work together and with the other systems of the body to regulate the individual, and how they can be influenced through psychotherapy to help our clients more effectively reach their mental health-related goals. Through engaging and experiential activities, learners in this training begin with exploring the philosophical relationship between the brain and the mind. They then gain a better understanding of the structures, systems, and functions of the brain and how these relate to the four core theoretical forces in psychotherapy: 1) analytic, 2) cognitive/behavioral, 3) humanistic/existential, and 4) contextual/constructivist. In addition, this training also focuses on applied neuroscience as it relates to the treatment of anxiety, depression, stress and trauma, and addictions and substance use disorders. Finally, learners explore some of the limitations of contemporary neuroscience and how a lack of understanding in this area by uninformed mental health professionals can lead to misinformation and ineffective clinical practice. NOTE: This training can be taken independently and is also part of the Noeticus Technical Excellence in Clinical Practice Certificate™ (NTECPC).

  • DATE: July 29 and 30, 2020 (Wednesday & Thursday).
  • TIME: 9:00 am to 6:00 pm.
  • CE CONTACT HOURS: 15.0 Contact Hours.
  • CE APPROVALS: DORA, NAADAC, NBCC; Applicable to the Noeticus Technical Excellence in Clinical Practice Certificate™ (NTECPC).
